CAMP DIRECTOR
Camp Lone Cloud is owned and operated by Scouts Canada. This island camp is located
on the out skirts of Halifax and provides a unique camping
opportunity for youth ages 8-16. Reporting to the volunteer
Chair of the Camp Management Board the successful candidate
will be employed on contract for approximately 6 months. Full
time commitment will be required for 8 consecutive weeks during
the summer. The balance of the time will be flexible and negotiable.
Weekend and evening availability are an expectation.
The magic of this camp will provide you with a life changing
experience.
Responsibilities:
·Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate a staff of
approximately 24
·Manage a budget of $100,000
·Oversee implementation of established programs, direct
and evaluate
·Maintain camp facility infrastructure

Camp Ranger
The Camp Ranger will be responsible for the coordination
of rental activities at Camp Lone Cloud. This position will
require predominantly weekend work however opportunities may
be presented for work through week days.
Responsibilities include:
· Liaison with contact person of rental group to determine
arrival/departure times and any other needs.
· Opening camp in preparation for the group and closing
camp ensuring it is clean and ready for the next group.
· Provide the rental contact with a tour upon arrival;
end of event facility check
· Advise the office of release of damage deposit
· Collect rental evaluation at the conclusion of the
event
· Ensure the safety of all participants being cognizant
of weather conditions
· Identify in consultation with the CMB chair a co
worker to assist with the group.
· Attend to maintenance items as directed; ie. Lawn
mowing, painting
· Conduct water tests and fire drills as appropriate
· Remain onsite for the duration of the rental period
· Be available from time to time to assist CMB Maintenance
work parties; camp opening (spring) and camp closing (fall).
Program Director
The Program Director is responsible for the delivery and
evaluation of the Island Camper Program as provided to them
by the Camp Management Board. They will be an integral part
of the pre camp training program to ensure all staff are fully
prepared for the delivery of the summer program. They will be
responsible for arranging for the purchase of all necessary
program related supplies in advance of camp opening. They will
be responsible for submitting an end of season report and recommendations
to the Camp Management Board not later than September 30th of
the operating year. Waterfront Director
SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION: The Waterfront Director is
responsible for the delivery and evaluation of the Waterfront
Program as provided to them by the Camp Management Board. They
will be an integral part of the pre camp training program to
ensure all staff are fully prepared for the delivery of the
summer program. They will be responsible for arranging for the
purchase of all necessary waterfront related supplies in advance
of camp opening. They are responsible for ensuring the safety
of participants through life guarding, maintenance of equipment,
boats and waterfront infrastructure. The Waterfront Director will
serve as the secondary first aid person in the camp and assist
the First Aid Director with any staff and camper medical records,
daily medical log, incident report forms and delivery of medication.
They will ensure an appropriate number of qualified assistant
lifeguards are in attendance for swims (based on number of participants).
They will be responsible for the programming, setup and running
of water day in conjunction with the Program Director. They
will be responsible for submitting an end of season report and
recommendations to the Camp Management Board not later than
September 30th of the operating year.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Follow and adhere to administrative policies and procedures
as outline in the Camp Policies and Procedures; as well as the
Duty of Care.
2. Participate in staff meetings and training events as applicable.
3. Maintain personal behavior of a responsible, mature and exemplary
nature in accordance with required standards of behavior established
for the camp.
4. Ensure the health and safety standards of the camp are maintained
at all times. (self and campers)
5. Ensure that all boats are fueled daily
6. Ensure that all boats have proper life jackets and cleaned
before all registrations and before weekly departure.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum 18 years of age
2. Current NLS and CPR certification
3. Current Standard First Aid certification or equivalent
4. Pleasure Craft Operator’s License
5. Experience in day/residential camping
6. Experience working with youth 8-15 years of age
7. Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a
leadership capacity with staff and campers
8. Demonstrated Supervisory and administrative experience
9. Familiarity with Scouting programs an asset
10. Demonstrated creativity and imagination in program design
and delivery
11. Knowledge of/practical experience in the out of doors and
wilderness camping.
12. Current, clean Police Record Check (PRC) for those over
18 years of age.

and accountable to the Camp Director. The management of Camp
Lone Cloud provides the opportunity for staff development
through ongoing feedback and evaluations. Staff members are
expected to participate and respond to this process.
Leadership Director(s)The Leadership Director is responsible for
the delivery and evaluation of the Leadership Program as provided
to them by the Camp Management Board. They will be an integral
part of the pre camp training program to ensure all staff are
fully prepared for the delivery of the summer program. They
will be responsible for arranging for the purchase of all necessary
program related supplies in advance of camp opening. They will
be responsible for submitting an end of season report and recommendations
to the Camp Management Board not later than September 30th of
the operating year.. Out Tripping Director
The Out Tripping Director is responsible for the
delivery and evaluation of the Out Tripping Program as provided
to them by the Camp Management Board. They will be an integral
part of the pre camp training program to ensure all staff are
fully prepared for the delivery of the summer program. They
will be responsible for arranging for the purchase of all necessary
Out Tripping related supplies in advance of camp opening. They
will be responsible for submitting an end of season report and
recommendations to the Camp Management Board not later than
September 30th of the operating year. First Aid Director
SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION:
The First Aid Director is responsible for the safety of everyone
on the island. They will be an integral part of the pre camp
training program to ensure all staff are fully prepared for
the safe and healthy delivery of the summer program. They will
be responsible for arranging for the purchase of all necessary
first aid related supplies in advance of camp opening. They
are responsible for ensuring the safety of participants through
providing quality first aid care.
The First Aid Director will serve as the primary first aid person
in the camp and be responsible for staff and camper medical
records, daily medical log, incident report forms and delivery
of medication. They will ensure that all staff are trained to
take care of any less urgent first aid situations. They will
be responsible for conducting first aid sessions for the Leaderships
Program. The will be expected to make regular checks on all
activities that occur on the mainland. They will be responsible
for submitting an end of season report and recommendations to
the Camp Management Board not later than September 30th of the
operating year. They will keep the Director informed in a timely
manner of any and all health and safety concerns. Liaise with
parents during registration and as the need arises.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Follow and adhere to administrative policies and procedures
as outline in the Camp Policies and Procedures; as well as
the Duty of Care.
2. Participate in staff meetings and training events as applicable.
3. Maintain personal behavior of a responsible, mature and
exemplary nature in accordance with required standards of
behavior established for the camp.
4. Ensure the health and safety standards of the camp are
maintained at all times. (self and campers) with a particular
focus on Risk Management
5. Serve as a member of the Camp Occupational Health & Safety
Committee (OH&S)
6. Will be responsible for regular completion and logging
of water tests; refrigeration logs; fire extinguisher and
smoke detector checks; conduct Fire Drills and record results
7. Coordinate garbage and compost disposal; manage security
lighting.
8. Manage Lost & Found; sorting, distribution, laundering,
disposal
9. Prepare Cabin groupings; review for special needs, dietary,
health

11. WHMIS Training
The First Aid Director is directly responsible
and accountable to the Camp Director. The management of Camp
Lone Cloud provides the opportunity for staff development through
ongoing feedback and evaluations. Staff members are expected
to participate and respond to this process. Food Services Director
SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION:
The Food Services Director is responsible for the planning and
preparation of menus and meals for the entire camp operation
including pre and post camp. They will be responsible for ordering
food and sundry materials within budget. They will be responsible
for storing and maintaining inventory of food supplies as well
as maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen facilities.
The Food Services Director is responsible for coordinating tasks
assigned to leadership youth during their rotation in the kitchen.
They will oversee the work of the Assistant Food Services Staff.
They will be responsible to ensure that appropriate water testing
is completed on a regular basis and records maintained (chlorine
levels daily and choliform tests bi weekly). They will discuss
any special dietary requirements with families and adjust menu
requirements accordingly. They are responsible for submitting
end of season report to the Camp Management Board by Sep. 30th
of the operating year.

the Duty of Care.

6. Responsible for all ordering, SYSCO, Canadian Springs,
Sobey’s, etc.

expected to participate and respond to this process.
Assistant Food Services Staff(s)
The Assistant Food Services Staff is responsible
to assist the Food Service Director in the planning and preparation
of menus and meals for the entire camp operation including pre
and post camp. They will be responsible for storing and maintaining
inventory of food supplies as well as maintaining cleanliness
of the kitchen facilities. Leadership Counselor(s)
The Leadership Counselor is responsible for the daily
supervision of youth ages 12-15. They are expected to be a
friend, teacher, guide and role model. They will implement
the leadership program and ensure a safe learning environment
for their campers. They will encourage campers to participate
in all activities and will be responsible for the health and
safety of them at all times. Leadership Counselors will spend
five days in a wilderness setting before completing their
twelve day rotation on the island camp.
Junior Counselor(s)
The Junior Counselor is responsible in
conjunction with an associated counselor for the daily supervision
of youth ages 8-11. They are expected to be a friend, teacher
and guide. They will implement the camper program and assist
the Program Director in the design and delivery of program
activities such as Theme Days, Interest Groups and Block Programs.
They will encourage campers to participate in all activities
and will be responsible for the health and safety of them
at all times.
Cabin Counselor(s)
The Cabin Counselor is responsible for
the daily supervision of youth ages 8-11. They are expected
to be a friend, teacher and guide. They will implement the
camper program and assist the Program Director in the design
and delivery of program activities such as Theme Days, Interest
Groups and Block Programs. They will encourage campers to
participate in all activities and will be responsible for
the health and safety of them at all times. They will facilitate
the ongoing development of the CIT assigned to their cabin
group and provide feedback to the Leadership Director on their
progress.
